The End, well sort of....

I've been debating a lot over the last few months whether to combine Bottom of the Pecking Order with The Urban Cottage. There are pros and cons to both and I've found myself writing this final post several times, only to decide that I will keep the two blogs separate and delete it again.

We've now had our hens for 1 year, and this blog has been running for almost as long. The plan was always to tell you about the learning curve involved with keeping livestock in the garden for the first time and I hope you've enjoyed the journey.

My decision has finally been made though. From now on news of our four hens will appear on The Urban Cottage along with all the other posts about patchwork, potatoes and puddings. I'm going to start a regular feature all about the mischievous chickens which I'm sure lovers of this blog will enjoy.

See you on the other side!

  1. Jenny, I'm atrociously late to this but I thought I'd put my tuppence worth in.

    When we moved to Bag End I started TVF just to record the progress we made on the garden. Then I realised I wanted to share other stuff (view, quilts, dogs and so on) so I started "The Other View From" but after a couple of years I made the same decision as you to combine everything.

    I wrote about the reasons in April 2011, reviewing that a couple of years on I still think moving to one blog was the right thing to do.

    And now, whoosh, off to YOUR other blog :}

    1. Thanks for your thoughts. I'm really happy to have made this decision, and it sounds like you went through a very similar process. The chickens fit in perfectly in The Urban Cottage and the only reason for not including them from the start was because they already had a home here. I found I was putting myself under pressure to keep this blog going when there was no need at all, and most readers were reading both blogs anyway.

      Because The Urban Cottage was a joint project it felt right to start a fresh blog that could be ours (whereas this will always be my space). I'm glad to have started here - the place that made me realise I enjoy putting pen to paper (figuratively speaking of course) - but as the months go by the more I'm convinced that the decision was the right one.

      Now off to see what you've said at UC!

    2. I find there is often something extremely cathartic about blog writing, and I can't be the only one - last time I was bored enough to Google it, apparently there are over 300 million blogs worldwide ...
